Overview

The Musee Rodin is housed in the Hotel Biron, an elegant 18th-century mansion in the 7th arrondissement. The museum displays Rodin's sculptures, drawings, and personal collection. The highlight for many visitors is the sculpture garden, where famous works including The Thinker and The Gates of Hell are displayed outdoors. The mansion has elevator access to both floors, and wheelchairs are available for loan.

Getting There

  • Metro: Varenne (Line 13) or Invalides (Lines 8, 13). Neither station has elevators. Use bus.
  • RER: Invalides (RER C). This station has elevator access. The museum is a 10-minute walk (600m).
  • Bus: Routes 69, 82, 87, 92. Stop "Varenne" on route 69 is closest.

The museum entrance is at 77 Rue de Varenne. The entrance gate has a flat threshold.

Wheelchair Accessibility

  • The mansion entrance has a ramp alongside the front steps.
  • Elevator inside connects the ground floor and first floor galleries.
  • Gallery rooms are not overly large, making navigation manageable. Some doorways are narrow by modern standards but accommodate standard wheelchairs.
  • Wheelchairs available for free loan at the reception. No deposit.
  • The sculpture garden has a mix of paved paths and gravel sections. The main paths leading to The Thinker and The Gates of Hell are paved. Side paths through the rose garden are gravel.
  • The garden cafe terrace is accessible via paved paths.

Accessible Toilets

Accessible toilets inside the mansion near the ground floor reception area. The garden does not have separate toilet facilities.

Tips for Visitors with Disabilities

  • Free entry for disabled visitors and one companion. Otherwise 13 EUR.
  • The museum is smaller and calmer than most Paris museums. Plan 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • The garden is worth visiting even if the indoor galleries do not interest you. A garden-only ticket costs 4 EUR (free with disability card).
  • Audio guides are available for 6 EUR and include audio descriptions.
  • The museum is near Les Invalides (Napoleon's tomb and the Army Museum), which is also partially accessible.
