Mostly Accessible

Overview

The Eiffel Tower is accessible by elevator to the 1st and 2nd floors. Wheelchair users can enjoy the views, restaurants, and exhibitions on these levels. The top floor (summit) requires transferring to a smaller elevator that can accommodate most manual wheelchairs but not large power chairs. The surrounding Champ de Mars park is flat and paved, making the approach easy.

Getting There

  • Metro: Bir-Hakeim (Line 6) or Trocadero (Lines 6, 9). Note: Neither station has elevators. Wheelchair users should use the bus.
  • RER: Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel (RER C). This station has step-free access.
  • Bus: Routes 42, 69, 72, 82, 87. All buses have ramps. The stop "Tour Eiffel" on route 82 is closest to the accessible entrance.
  • Accessible entrance: The accessible entrance is at the South Pillar (Pilier Sud). Follow signs for "Visiteurs handicapes."

Wheelchair Accessibility

  • Elevators to the 1st and 2nd floors accommodate wheelchairs, including most power chairs.
  • The 1st floor glass floor area is wheelchair accessible and offers views straight down.
  • The 2nd floor has the souvenir shops, snack bars, and viewing platforms, all accessible.
  • The top floor (summit) elevator is smaller. Maximum wheelchair dimensions: 64cm wide x 90cm long. Large power chairs may not fit. Staff can advise at the base.
  • Priority entry through the South Pillar skips the general queue.

Book your tickets online in advance and select the "elevator" option. Walk-up tickets sell out quickly, especially in summer. Choose the "priority access" time slot if available for your visit date.

Accessible Toilets

Accessible toilets are at ground level near the South Pillar, on the 1st floor near the exhibition area, and on the 2nd floor near the souvenir shop. Each has grab bars and sufficient space for wheelchair users.

Tips for Visitors with Disabilities

  • Book timed tickets online at the official website. Select "Elevator" access (not "Stairs").
  • Visit during the first or last time slot of the day for the shortest waits.
  • Disability card holders get a reduced rate but not free entry. One companion pays the reduced rate too.
  • Bring a jacket. The upper floors are windy and temperatures drop significantly.
  • The restaurants (Madame Brasserie on 1st floor, Jules Verne on 2nd floor) are both wheelchair accessible. Book well in advance.
