Mostly Accessible

Overview

The Jardin des Tuileries stretches from the Louvre to Place de la Concorde, making it one of the most central green spaces in Paris. The main central path is paved and flat, offering a pleasant wheelchair route between the Louvre and the Musee de l'Orangerie. Side paths are loose gravel, which is difficult for wheelchair users, especially after rain. The garden features statues, fountains, a large central pond, and seasonal activities including a summer carnival.

Getting There

  • Metro: Tuileries (Line 1). Line 1 has elevator access at this station. The garden entrance is steps away from the station exit.
  • Metro: Concorde (Lines 1, 8, 12). Line 1 accessible. Near the western end of the garden.
  • Bus: Routes 24, 42, 52, 72, 73, 84, 94. All Paris buses have ramps.
  • Entrances: Multiple entrances along Rue de Rivoli (north side) and along the Seine (south side). The Rue de Rivoli entrances are flat. Some Seine-side entrances have steps.

Wheelchair Accessibility

  • The main central path from the Louvre to Place de la Concorde is fully paved and flat. This is the best route through the garden.
  • Side paths leading to sculptures and seating areas are loose gravel. Difficult for wheelchair users.
  • The garden is flat throughout with no significant slopes.
  • Metal chairs and benches are scattered throughout. Wheelchair users can park alongside the chairs near the central pond.
  • The summer carnival (late June through August) adds some temporary paved paths but also narrows some routes.

The paved central path makes an excellent wheelchair route connecting the Louvre, Orangerie, and Place de la Concorde attractions. Stick to this path for the smoothest experience.

Accessible Toilets

Accessible public toilets are located near the central octagonal pond and near the Musee de l'Orangerie. Both are free Sanisette automatic toilets with grab bars.

Tips for Visitors

  • Free entry. Open daily from early morning until late evening (hours vary by season).
  • The paved central path makes an excellent wheelchair route connecting the Louvre, Orangerie, and Place de la Concorde attractions.
  • In summer, the garden hosts a carnival with rides and food stalls. The area can be crowded and some pathways are temporarily blocked.
  • Multiple cafes and food kiosks throughout the garden. Most have outdoor seating at ground level.
  • Best combined with a visit to the Louvre or Musee de l'Orangerie, both of which are at either end of the garden.
