Fully Accessible

Overview

The Cite des Sciences et de l'Industrie is Europe's largest science museum, located in the Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement. Built in the 1980s with accessibility as a core design principle, the museum remains one of the most accessible cultural venues in Paris. Every exhibit area is wheelchair accessible. The museum features hands-on science exhibits, a planetarium, a submarine, and regular temporary exhibitions.

Getting There

  • Metro: Porte de la Villette (Line 7). This station has elevator access to the street. The museum entrance is a 5-minute walk (300m) from the station.
  • Bus: Routes 139, 150, 152. Stop "Porte de la Villette" is closest.
  • Tram: T3b to Porte de la Villette. Fully accessible with level boarding.
  • Entrance: The museum entrance on Avenue Corentin Cariou is flat with automatic doors.

Wheelchair Accessibility

  • Every exhibit area on all floors is wheelchair accessible. No steps anywhere in the building.
  • Multiple large elevators throughout the building.
  • Wide corridors and generous space around interactive exhibits.
  • Wheelchairs available for free loan at the main entrance. Audio guides also available.
  • Many exhibits include tactile elements designed for blind and low-vision visitors, including braille labels and touchable models.
  • The planetarium has wheelchair spaces. Book accessible seats when purchasing planetarium tickets.
  • The Geode (IMAX theater) next to the museum also has wheelchair accessible seating.

This is one of the best museums in Paris for families with disabled children. The hands-on exhibits are designed for multiple types of interaction, including tactile, audio, and visual. The children's area (Cite des Enfants) has dedicated accessible activity stations.

Accessible Toilets

Accessible toilets on every floor of the museum. They are well maintained, spacious, and clearly signed.

Tips for Visitors with Disabilities
